For J.Crew in Canvas, hibiscus print and shibori tie-dye
For Madewell in black perfed leather.
I have a shoe problem and love them all. Need your votes!
UPDATE - note on sizing: I did follow the sizing recommendation on the JCrew website (i.e. purchased a 4H in Vans to get my usual women's 6). I tried to tell
the Madewell SA the same thing, since I was ordering over the phone, and she
just did the calculation herself using my usual women's size. So if you're going to Madewell, they might
have it already converted for you to women's US sizes. Go with your true size.
Thoughts?
I'm obsessed and would keep them all. I have the bronze metallic and almost bought both those black and hibiscus! Since it's almost fall I would keep the black. If you can keep two keep the hibiscus and black. Otherwise, keep them all! What jeans are you wearing? Which coat?
ReplyDeleteHa, I just went through this myself. I loooove that orange floral print, but I couldn't think of how or where I'd wear it. The tie-dye is fun for summer, but the black perforated would be great for fall. J. Crew has solid canvas colors too, if you want to make your decision harder ;) My vote is the tie-dye for summer wear or if you are looking toward fall then the black ones (they are a heavier weight/hotter, if I recall correctly).
ReplyDeletebtw, cate, I thought I'd wear out the hibiscus just as shown in the picture - with that very outfit. So, for me, it's a pop of colour and I ignore the print. It mostly reads orangey red to me, The print, if it contrasts or matches with what I'm wearing, would be a bonus. Does that make sense?
DeleteJust going by pics and not being influenced by any commentary you might have w/the pics, I vote for the hibiscus and the black. Black are classic & the perforations add interest. I love the brightness of the hibiscus. The tie-dye look like a spilled paint accident. $0.02
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comments, ladies!
ReplyDeleteWhatthemom, I am wearing an old cargo/army jacket by Land's End (bought when the trend first started about five years ago) and the cropped reid jeans from JCRew (size down one size from your standard denim waist size).
Cate, your vote for the shibori amongst the two other votes for the hibiscus print ones, captures perfectly my dilemma - I love the hibiscus and then my heart gets a little tug for the other pair too! :)
We are all in agreement over the black perf leather, I see! I think I'll be returning my Converse from Nordstrom and keeping these Vans.
Thank you so much, all, for writing in! Have a great day!
Hi Maqsad! You've really got me interested in these shoes now! I've never tried Vans. What do you think of them as far as sizing and comfort? I def think you should keep the black ones but I am torn about the others too. I'd prob go with the floral since my husband hates tie-dye :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren! Welcome to my little blog! The Vans run true to size, in my experience, and they are well fitting: they won't slip off your foot or anything. They are sneakers, essentially, so they feel comfortable on, and definitely can be worn without socks the way one would wear any other closed shoe with socks. Otherwise, you could totally do a footglove type of sock with them too. The perfed leather ones are a cheaper-but-high-quality alternative to the perfed leather slip on sneakers that Vince did earlier this year. I am quite smitten by them, and by the hibiscus print. I totally ignored the Vans, shunned them, even, when they first cans out, but tried on a plain white pair in store and loved the high platform look. Plus I do have a tendency to give trends the time of day, if pushed hard by JCrew. Good luck! They're super cheap at JC in canvas: noes the time to try them, for sure!
Delete*came out, not cans out
Delete*now's the time to try, not noes the time...
Thanks so much for your quick reply! I went ahead and ordered the floral ones to try out ;)
DeleteLauren, you're most welcome! Fingers crossed for you!
DeleteQuestion about sizing. The website says for women to order 1.5 sizes down. Did you go by that suggestion or did you order your usual, women's retail shoe size? TIA
ReplyDeleteHi Gigi,
Deletegood point - I was totally skipping over the important detail and will update the review to that effect. I did follow the sizing recommendation on the JCrew website. I tried to tell the Madewell SA the same thing, since I was ordering over the phone, and she just did the calculation herself. So if you're going to Madewell, they might have it already converted for you to women's US sizes. Go with your true size. HTH
Thank you :)
